OIC Philadelphia proudly welcomed community leaders, partners, employers, funders, alumni, and supporters to our 2026 Annual Stakeholder Convening for an evening dedicated to collaboration, innovation, and shared purpose. Centered around the theme "Building Economic Power. Stronger Together.", the convening highlighted the collective work taking place across Philadelphia to expand opportunity and create pathways to economic mobility.
More than an annual meeting, this year's convening served as a call to action, bringing together leaders from workforce development, housing, entrepreneurship, education, and community organizations to explore how cross-sector partnerships can strengthen neighborhoods and create lasting economic impact.
Throughout the evening, President & CEO Sheila Ireland reflected on OIC Philadelphia's accomplishments over the past year and shared the organization's bold vision for the future. As OIC Philadelphia continues to grow its workforce training programs, supportive services, and community initiatives, the message was clear: meaningful change happens when organizations work together to remove barriers and create opportunities for individuals and families to thrive.
Guests also received an inside look at OIC Philadelphia's plans to expand its impact through innovative workforce development strategies and enhanced community partnerships. With a continued focus on economic mobility, entrepreneurship, digital access, and workforce readiness, the organization reaffirmed its commitment to preparing Philadelphians for family-sustaining careers while strengthening the local economy.
One of the evening's highlights was a dynamic panel discussion featuring distinguished regional leaders who are helping shape Philadelphia's economic future:
Together, the panelists discussed the importance of aligning workforce development with housing stability, entrepreneurship, and small business growth to create sustainable economic opportunity. Their conversation emphasized that addressing today's workforce challenges requires intentional collaboration between nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, government agencies, and the private sector.
The evening also showcased the incredible talent of OIC Philadelphia's Culinary Arts participants, who expertly prepared and catered the event's refreshments. Their professionalism, creativity, and attention to detail provided guests with an exceptional dining experience while demonstrating the real-world skills they have developed through OIC Philadelphia's hands-on culinary training program. Their contributions were a powerful reminder that our participants are not only learning valuable career skills, they are actively demonstrating their readiness to excel in the workforce.
Audience members also participated in an interactive commitment activity, pledging ways they will continue supporting workforce development and economic empowerment throughout the region. The exercise reinforced one of the evening's central messages: every partner has a role to play in building stronger communities.
As OIC Philadelphia looks toward the future, the organization remains grounded in the vision of our founder, Rev. Dr. Leon H. Sullivan, whose belief that opportunity is the foundation of economic freedom continues to guide our work today. From workforce training and career pathways to entrepreneurship and community partnerships, OIC Philadelphia is committed to creating systems that empower individuals to achieve lasting success.
We are deeply grateful to every stakeholder, community partner, employer, elected official, board member, supporter, and guest who joined us for this year's convening. A special thank you also goes to our Culinary Arts participants and instructors, whose outstanding service helped make the evening even more memorable.
Together, we are building more than careers, we are building economic power. And together, we are creating a stronger Philadelphia for generations to come.
