On Friday, September 4, OIC Philadelphia welcomed alumni, participants, partners, neighbors, and friends to N. Watts Street for our 4th Annual Alumni & Community Block Party—an afternoon filled with connection, celebration, entertainment, and opportunity.
More than just a celebration, the annual Block Party reflects what OIC Philadelphia has represented for more than 60 years: community, workforce development, and pathways to economic opportunity.
Throughout the afternoon, attendees connected with community resource partners offering valuable information and services, enjoyed family-friendly activities, and shared great food prepared by OIC Philadelphia’s Culinary Arts participants. The event also provided an opportunity for OIC alumni to reconnect with the organization and celebrate the lasting impact of the OIC experience.
Music and entertainment brought Watts Street to life, including a live performance from the Urban Guerilla Orchestra (UGO) and a special performance featuring OIC Digital Media alumni alongside Philadelphia hip-hop artist Freeway—showcasing the talent and creativity being developed through OIC programs.
The event’s program, hosted by 6abc anchor TaRhonda Thomas, brought together OIC leadership, board members, elected officials, and community leaders to recognize the organization’s continued impact across Philadelphia.
One of the afternoon’s special moments was the presentation of the Vennel Jones Alumni Award to Jasmin Oliver, a Culinary Arts alumna who continued her journey through OIC Philadelphia’s Food Entrepreneurship Program. Jasmin is now working toward growing her own soul food business—an example of how training can become a pathway to entrepreneurship and economic mobility.
The success of this year’s Block Party would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors, community partners, volunteers, staff, performers, alumni, and attendees who helped make the day memorable.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Watts Street and continues to be part of the OIC Philadelphia community.
