OIC Philadelphia celebrated a major milestone yesterday with the official launch of the Keystone Green Jobs Training Program, backed by $250,000 in new funding from the Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA) through the America Rescue Plan's Good Jobs Challenge.
The press conference, held on March 11, brought together key stakeholders including State Senator Sharif Street, Representatives Malcolm Kenyatta and Elizabeth Fiedler, Councilmembers Jeffery Young, Jamie Gauthier, Rue Landau, and Dr. Nina Ahmad, along with representatives from Anthony Phillip's office and partner organizations from across Pennsylvania.
This significant investment will expand OIC Philadelphia's already successful Green Jobs program, which creates vital career pathways in the clean energy sector by equipping individuals with skills necessary for sustainable employment in this rapidly growing industry.
Since its inception in 2017 with an initial $130,000 investment from PECO, the program has experienced remarkable growth and is projected to serve approximately 100 graduates in 2025. This expansion is made possible through nearly $1 million in contributions from key partners including PECO, Philadelphia Works, Santander, and PEA.
A highlight of the event was a powerful testimonial from OIC Philadelphia alumna Erika Watkins, who now works as an Electrical Designer at PECO, demonstrating the program's life-changing impact. The organization also unveiled the official logo for the Keystone Green Jobs Training Program, symbolizing the initiative's commitment to building a statewide green jobs training network.
OIC Philadelphia continues to stand at the intersection of workforce development, social equity, and economic empowerment by connecting individuals to future-proof employment that provides family-sustaining wages with opportunities for career advancement.
