Pennsylvania Business Report: Opportunities Industrialization Center awarded $575,000 in Community Project Funding

Philadelphia-based Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC), an organization offering no cost training for in-demand careers, recently was awarded $575,000 in Community Project Funding (CPF).

CPF is not a grant or funds apportioned by a formula. Instead, it is a federal initiative allowing Congressional members to request direct funding for projects that benefit communities they represent.

U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA) presented Sheila Ireland, OIC president and CEO, with a check on Aug. 8 at OIC’s campus in Philadelphia.

“I voted for and am proud to deliver this funding that will support the expansion of comprehensive and high-quality healthcare training programs at OIC,” Boyle said. “Targeted funding like CPF allows me to work directly with local stakeholders — and not some Washington bureaucrat — to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge to meet the demands of an evolving job market. By enhancing the training of those who choose to serve on the frontlines of healthcare, we are making continued improvements to the delivery of healthcare in our city and neighborhoods. And by empowering those individuals in the workforce we foster economic growth and stability.”

OIC will use the funding to expand its healthcare program. It also provides training in digital media, financial services, the hospitality industry, and trades.
