OIC Philadelphia's 2024-25 Graduation

OIC Philadelphia – a nonprofit that stands at the intersection of workforce development, social equity, and economic empowerment by connecting individuals to future-proof employment – celebrated more than 200 workforce training graduates today at its 2025 graduation ceremony, held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center's Mayor Nutter Theatre. With family members, city leaders, and community partners in attendance, graduates were inducted into the Sullivan Champions Alumni Network during a live pinning ceremony—a symbolic moment underscoring their role in carrying forward the legacy of Reverend Dr. Leon H. Sullivan, founder of OIC.

The 2025 graduation marked an incredible year-over-year organizational growth in training, programs, and applicants for OIC Philadelphia, as seen a 475% increase in applicants. Highlights of the past year include the launch of the Keystone Green Jobs Training Program, the introduction of a Behavioral Health Technician track, and a donation of 200 laptops from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to modernize learning.

"Today's graduates came from neighborhoods in our city where opportunities are often limited and systemic challenges persist. Amidst poverty, incarceration, and systemic inequality, they showed up every day and strived for more – believing in something better," reflected Sheila Ireland, President & CEO of OIC Philadelphia. "These individuals were not just workers in training—they emerged as leaders in the making. They stood tall as skilled professionals and living proof that transformation is possible. Their courage, commitment, and consistency brought them to this milestone, and I could not be prouder."

The ceremony, for graduates in OIC Philadelphia's Green Jobs, Healthcare, and Hospitality & Tourism programs, featured a keynote address by Senator Sharif Street (D–Philadelphia), with additional remarks from Kyra Harris, Deputy City Representative of the City of Philadelphia; and Sheila Ireland, President & CEO of OIC Philadelphia.

During the ceremony, two alumni were recognized with special honors:

• Aziza Butler, a graduate of the Culinary Arts program, received the Sullivan Champion Award for excellence in her field and for serving as an example of what's possible through OIC training. The award was presented by Ron Howard, former Chief Operating Officer of OIC International.
• Luis Santiago, a healthcare graduate and current instructor, received the Moving Mountains Award for his leadership and mentorship of fellow students. Elisabeth Johnson, granddaughter of Leon Sullivan, presented this prestigious award, honoring her grandfather's enduring legacy of economic empowerment and community transformation.
