Khalil Shields embarked on a transformative journey with OIC Philadelphia's reentry and career support services in November of 2019. Although on house arrest, Khalil's humor and resilience propelled him to use that time for personal growth. He enrolled in construction training with the Energy Coordinating Agency, and his positive attitude enabled him to overcome challenges.
Completing his training on February 14th, 2020, Khalil earned his OSHA 10 and other certificates. Even when he missed the opportunity for additional certifications, he remained focused. With the guidance of OIC's employment specialist, Mary Sandifer, Khalil found other certification and employment opportunities. On March 6th, 2020, he earned his Flagger Certification and secured full-time employment with Flagger Force.
Khalil's determination to succeed and his continued optimistic outlook have defined his journey with OIC Philadelphia. His story illustrates how the organization's reentry and career support services can pave the way to a fulfilling career and a fresh start. For Khalil, this second chance truly means "a new beginning."
